Kids' Zone - School Age Child Care
Kids’ Zone is a unique opportunity for families to participate in high-quality school-aged child care before and after school and during the summer months. Our programs take place in a safe and nurturing environment and all participating students receive educational support through recreational and enrichment opportunities to encourage students to pursue interests, develop friendships, establish independence, and gain self-confidence.
Program Overview
Summer Care: Students must be entering Kindergarten - 5th Grade (Fall 2025).
June 9 - August 15 | 6:30 am to 5:30 pm
Families have the option of half or full-day care. We provide an enriching field trip weekly; additional fees may apply.
Please note that summer care is an optional program, and families wishing to participate must complete a separate registration form from the school year. Also, due to the use of Kids’ Zone staff on field trips, there is no regular care on-site when field trips occur (students must participate in the field trip to receive care).
Proctor School Year Care: Bay View Elementary and Pike Lake Elementary accept students in grades K-5 for before and after-school care. Students must be entering kindergarten in the fall to participate.
Hermantown School Year Care: Hermantown Elementary accepts students in grades K-4 for before care and K-5 for after and summer care. Please note that the grade differential at Hermantown is due to the 5th-grade students' location at Hermantown Middle School and their earlier start time.
Before-school care begins at 6:30 am and runs to the start of your student’s school day. Students may participate in school breakfast and are dismissed from the Kids’ Zone directly to their classroom approximately 10-15 minutes before their regular school day starts. Hourly charges are incurred for the quarter-hour.
After-school care begins upon teacher dismissal and is available until 5:30 pm each school day.
Our sites do not provide care on non-school days throughout the school year. However, please check our seasonal Community Education catalog for non-school-day field trips, classes, or special events.
School Closure care is unavailable when the school district cancels schools due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Late Start care is available when school is delayed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. All locations will open at 8:30 am, and care will be provided until the start of the school day.
Early Release care is unavailable on days when school is released early due to inclement weather. All locations will be closed.
A snack will be provided at all our sites for after-school care, which is included in the program fee.
Additional Information
Due to the popularity of our Kids’ Zone program at all sites, it’s important to note that enrollment fills quickly, and all enrollment takes place online.
Current families are provided an opportunity to re-enroll before it’s opened to the public. Be sure to watch for communications directly from the district Kids' Zone Coordinator regarding this very important date.
New families may begin to enroll approximately two weeks after the enrollment window has been opened for current families.
All enrollment dates for the upcoming school year and summer are announced in our Winter Community Education catalog. Every district resident is scheduled to receive our winter catalog in the second week of January. If your family does not receive the Community Education catalog please contact us at 218.628.6293.
Please note regarding school year care, your student must be enrolled in the elementary school of the Kids’ Zone site you are trying to enroll. We welcome all students at our sites, district residents, or open enrollment. Enrollment is first come, first-served despite the student’s physical address.
Due to the spaces we have available to provide Kids' Zone, we do not accept students beyond grade 5.
